
As part of CGN’s environmental commitment to the care and protection of the environment and natural resources, there have been carried out a series of studies and monitoring projects in order to characterize the quality of the environment in the project area and surrounding areas .
As part of the monitoring program, there were established monitoring stations to determine the quality of air, water, water quality of Lake Izabal and groundwater, through international procedures for data collection, sample handling and analysis.
CGN has also developed a number of environmental studies in order to know the physical and biological state of the environment of the area, in areas of hydrology, geology, climate, natural hazards, among others. In the biological issue there has been evaluation of floristic composition, vegetation health, behavior of birds, mammals, aquatic biology, and so on. In socio-economic aspects, there have been investigations of health, culture, archeology and demographics of the area, with the aim of raising awareness of the social and economic dynamics of the region.
